Robbery doesn't appear to be related to other recent bank heists
CHESTERTON | A "well-dressed man" on Wednesday afternoon robbed the Chase bank branch at 109 Broadway in Chesterton, police said.
Police said the robber did not display a gun, but told a teller to hand over the cash. The robber made off with an undetermined amount of cash.
The robber is described as a black man, 6 feet tall and clean shaven, wearing a tan beret.
The robber is believed to have fled in a red four-door Oldsmobile with faded paint and multiple dents.
Chesterton Police Chief George Nelson said the vehicle, which had been parked at a business near the bank, last was seen westbound on Broadway.
After the robbery about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Chesterton police asked officers from surrounding departments to look for the robber, but he wasn't immediately found. Nelson, who was among those searching for the robber, said anyone with information can call Chesterton police at (219) 926-1136.
Wednesday's robbery doesn't appear to be related to the two robberies that occurred in recent months at the 1st Source Bank branch on Indian Boundary Road in Chesterton.
The April 7 robbery there was committed by a Hispanic man in a safari hat, while the Jan. 25 robbery was committed by a white man with blond hair.
