CROWN POINT | Cassandra Fenner pleaded not guilty Monday to charges she stabbed a man to death with a barbecue fork and knife after an argument at a Gary home, Lake Criminal Court records state.

Fenner, 49, was charged earlier this month with murder and felony battery in Robert Gillum's March 3 death in the 2300 block of Waverly Drive in Gary.

Fenner's boyfriend said she flew into a rage after they were out drinking with several others, court records allege. She started breaking dishes and wreaking havoc in the kitchen of the home they were visiting, police said.

Gillum told Fenner to stop messing up his mother-in-law's house, and she stabbed him with a barbecue fork, court records state. They took the argument outside, where Fenner stabbed Gillum with a knife, police said.

Fenner admitted to heavy drinking and said she gets very angry and blacks out when she drinks, court records allege.

Fenner said she doesn't remember stabbing Gillum, court records indicate. She also told police she is bipolar but not taking her medicine, police said.

She is being held in the Lake County Jail without an opportunity to post bail.
