This summer, a Lansing resident will again join a traveling theater troupe to present "Godspell." Thirteen current students and one future student from Huntington University will present the musical. This is the second consecutive run for the production, which toured for more than 40 venues last season.

Brad DeYoung, a technician from Lansing, is a senior theater design and technology major. At Huntington University, he has been master electrician for "The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr Abridged" and "The Curious Savage." He also has served as assistant scenic designer for "Pippin," technical director for "Crimes of the Heart" and "I, Faustus;" lighting designer for "The Royal Cricket of Japan;" "Sure Thing;" "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe;" and "House of Bernarda Alba;" assistant light designer for "Little Shop of Horrors;" sound designer for "1940s Radio Hour;" and scenic designer for "Shakesperience!" and "Waiting for Godot." Last summer, he served as the technician for "Godspell."

The 2007 production features a new cast, crew and a fresh theme. The "Godspell" troupe will give approximately 40 shows between Thursday and Aug. 10 at churches throughout the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions. Admission is free, and the public is invited.

Unlike earlier productions of "Godspell," which cast Jesus and his disciples as a traveling band of troubadours, this interpretation casts Christ as the producer/director of the ultimate variety show.

The script of "Godspell" is drawn nearly verbatim from the Gospel according to Matthew. Each "Godspell" performance is the end result of a two-and-a-half week rehearsal intensive "boot camp" in which student actors and musicians join the professional production team.
