HIGHLAND | Skateboarders might be limited in where they can roll if the Town Council delivers on an ordinance to ban skateboarding in certain areas of town.

Councilman Mark Herak, R-2nd, would like the council to consider a prohibition on skateboards, Town Manager Richard Underkofler said. The proposal is on the agenda for Monday night's study session.

Underkofler suggested the ban include town-owned properties, including parks and the new Main Square Park gazebo, easements and rights-of-way owned by the town.

"He (Herak) was concerned about the gazebo and out here by the Town Hall," Underkofler said.

He said he will ask Clerk-Treasurer Michael Griffin to help him write a draft ordinance for the council to consider. Depending on its final form, the proposed law also could make it illegal for skateboards to be used on public sidewalks and streets.

The board members speculated that such a law could, in effect, confine skateboarders to their private driveways.
