LANSING | The last day of school this year for students in Lansing Elementary School District 158 will be June 4.

The last day of school for District 158 -- which includes Calvin Coolidge, Oak Glen and Reavis Elementary schools, as well as Memorial Junior High School and the Lester Crawl Primary Center -- was adjusted during Wednesday's Board of Education meeting because not all snow days were used.

"There were five additional snow days in the calendar, so we just amended for four because we used one," Superintendent Veronda Cottle said.

The board also approved the District 158 academic calendar for the 2008-2009 school year.

"We try to keep it as similar to surrounding schools as possible," Director of Curriculum Philip Schumaker said.

The first day of school for students will be Aug. 27, while teachers will report two days sooner for institute days.

The last day of attendance for students next year is scheduled for June 5, 2009, with the usual five emergency days added after that for snow or other unforeseen circumstances.
