SCHERERVILLE | Residents will have a chance to honor Vietnam veterans when the American Veterans Traveling Tribute stops at Memory Lane Memorial Park on U.S. 30.

The traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will open at noon Thursday and remain at the cemetery through Sunday, Memory Lane Director Scott Gross said.

Gross said the wall has traveled to Lake County in the past, attracting several thousand visitors. He expects the same number of visitors while the memorial is open at the cemetery.

"We're looking forward to it," Gross said.

There is no cost to see the memorial, but there is a $5 parking fee, Gross said.

A 30-minute services will start at 5 p.m. Thursday. Additional services will be at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Visitors will learn about the wall during the services, and local veterans will speak about their experiences.
