Christmas concert | Schererville

The Noteables present "Sing Alleluia!," a Christmas vocal event, at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 140 W. U.S. 30. The group with members from Lake and Porter counties is accompanied by Barb Kubacki, of Griffith. Guest flautist is Chelsea Terry. The program begins with "Here Comes Santa Claus," a Gene Autry special. Traditional carols follow including "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "Winter Wonderland," and "Reindeer Hula." Four specialty numbers will be sung and danced. The concert also features a Christmas carol sing-along with the audience participating in "The 12 Days of Christmas." Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children.

Wigilia Christmas meal, Mass | Munster

Polish Women's Alliance - District 3 - will celebrate the holidays with a Wigilia Christmas meal and Mass. Wigilia will start at noon Dec. 20 with a Polish Mass at the monastery chapel/church at Carmelite Shrine, 1628 Ridge Road. The St. Cecilia choir of St. Stanislaus Church in East Chicago will sing Christmas hymns and carols. A luncheon follows at 1 p.m. at the Carmelite Shrine banquet hall. Tickets cost $30 per person. The reservation deadline is Dec. 13. Make checks payable to District 3 Polish Women's Alliance and mail to Delphine Huneycutt, District 3 state president, 4909 Baring Ave., East Chicago, IN 46312.

Cookie walk | Munster

Westminster Presbyterian Church, 8955 Columbia Ave., will have its 11th annual Cookie Walk to benefit Hospice of the Calumet Area. It's from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 6. Baked and donated by area volunteers, holiday treats will be available for purchase at $7.50 per pound. Gourmet dog biscuits will also be for sale.

Wings of Healing | East Chicago

The St. Catherine Hospital's annual Wings of Healing Program allows participants to honor loved ones during the holiday season. The ornaments on the Wings of Healing tree represent donations made to honor someone who fills your life with joy, or can honor the memory of someone who has pass away, but remains in your heart during the Christmas season. Personalized angel cards are sent to honorees or families to commemorate the event. For a $10 donation, individuals, businesses and organizations can have an angel hung on the Wings of Healing Tree. For a $25 donation, the donor also receives an angel ornament. Donations provide funding for the St. Catherine Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Program for students pursuing careers in healthcare.

A tree lighting ceremony to commemorate all honorees will be at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 9 in the St. Catherine Hospital Lobby.

Santa breakfast | Griffith

Beiriger Elementary School, 601 N. Lillian St., will host its annual Breakfast with Santa from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 6 in the school cafeteria. There will be pancakes, biscuits and gravy (courtesy of Cracker Barrel), crafts, face painting and Santa. Each grade will raffle off a themed basket. Tickets are available at the door.

STEEL RETIREES | Schererville

LaSalle Steel Retirees will have lunch at noon Dec. 4 at Teibel's Restaurant, U.S. 30 and U.S. 41. Everyone will pay for his or her own lunch. Friends are welcome. Call for reservations.

Special Mass | Hammond

Our Lady of Guadalupe Novena, Mass and celebration is at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 to 12 in the St. John Bosco chapel, 7113 Columbia Ave. Pray the rosary. Nonperishable food items will be accepted for the St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry. At 7 p.m. Dec. 12, there will be a Mass to honor the Blessed Mother. It will include mariachis, presentation of roses, dancers and a brief reenactment. Afterward there will be a celebration in the cafeteria. All are welcome. Dinners are $7 for adults and $6 for children.

Donations | Northwest Indiana

Advance Financial will accept donations of new toys, children's clothing and seasonal items for the East Chicago Angel Tree Gift Drive at its branches in East Chicago, Schererville and Gary - through Dec. 5. The credit union has branches at 4035 Alder St. in East Chicago, 31 W. Lincoln Highway in Schererville and 1544 W. 36th Ave. in Gary.

Christmas prayer breakfast | Lansing

The Lansing Ministerial Association will host the Mayor's Christmas Prayer Breakfast from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Dec. 4 at the Lansing Country Club, 186th and Wentworth. Admittance is by ticket only.

Countdown to Christmas | Highland

Countdown to Christmas is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 6 at Bean Counter's Cafe, 8413 Kennedy Ave. There will be vendors and crafters with some of the proceeds benefitting the Munster Civic Foundation for flood relief.

Holiday Bazaar | Hammond

Hammond New Harvest, 1421 173rd St., will have a holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 6. They will feature pierogies, homemade fudge, crafts and pictures with Santa. There will be free soup and hot chocolate.

Winter concert | Munster

The Northwest Indiana Symphony Youth Orchestra will present its winter concert Dec. 7 at the Munster High School Auditorium, 8808 Columbia Ave. The concert, under the direction of Philip Bauman, will begin at 3 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend. Tickets for the concert are general admission, and are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

Chi Gong | Munster

Pierogi sale | Whiting

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church is selling homemade frozen pierogi from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 14 in the St. John Panel Room Lobby, 1844 Lincoln Ave. There are five varieties - potato, kraut, cheese, plum butter and apricot. It costs $7 per dozen. Noodles will be sold for $2 per bag while they last. Prepacked orders will be taken by calling (219) 659-0090.

Dinner dance | Calumet City

St. Victor Parish - Our Lady of Guadalupe Society will host a dinner-dance in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Dec. 13. The community is invited to appreciate the various activities associated with this celebration in order to continue to foster an environment of mutual understanding and respect within the different cultural groups that live in Calumet City. The dinner-dance will be held in the Church Hall; reception starts at 6 p.m.; dinner at 7 p.m. and dance from 9 p.m. to midnight. The event will feature live entertainment, music, cash bar and a raffle. Tickets are being sold for the event at a cost $25 each.

Calumet City Chamber of Commerce will host a business after hours Dec. 4 at Chili's, 1580 Torrence Ave. Chamber members and their friends are invited to attend and mix and mingle and network from 5 to 7 p.m.
