LOWELL | The study circle concept that has created community dialogue on a variety of topics across the country is coming to Lowell, and the subject is education.

Schools and Communities Working Together is the theme of the four study circle sessions set to begin Oct. 18 at the Lowell Public Library.

Library spokeswoman Nell Fabish said no one has yet registered for the sessions, which are limited to 10 participants. The registration deadline is Oct. 12.

"These small groups examine an issue while helping people better their skills in public deliberation and civic engagement," said Brad Clinehens, of the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service, which is facilitating the study circles. "It can also help promote civil, civic discourse."

Clinehens said that the library is helping to recruit participants.

"We need a diverse group," he said, explaining that the goal is to pull in ideas and knowledge from a cross-section of the community. "It's semi-structured. The idea is that by the end of the four weeks, a project related to the topic will be done."
