GARY | Federal investigators may wrap up their search of Gary Sanitary District offices this afternoon, an official said Wednesday.
Randy Ashe, acting special agent for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, said investigators hope to complete their search by noon.
The EPA on Monday announced a multiagency search of the district office for "evidence of environmental crime."
Gary Mayor Rudy Clay, who took over as the district's administrator in 2006, said law enforcement agents have seized boxes of documents from district offices starting Monday.
Clay and sanitary board members have said they are unaware of the focus of the search.
"I have no idea (what it's about)," board secretary Cynthia Watts said Tuesday.
