Disturbance at Pepe's leads to man's arrest

SOUTH HAVEN | A Gary man was arrested following a disturbance at 2 a.m. Saturday at Pepe's, 809 McCool Road, South Haven.

Nealy Wallace, 26, who also has an address in Warsaw, was arrested on charges of intimidation, strangulation, battery and public intoxication. Police said he struck his ex-fiancee and choked her inside the bar, then threatened to harm the arresting officer.

Porter man faces charges after melee at tavern

BURNS HARBOR | Burns Harbor police said an intoxicated man at Shift Change Tap became angry when his friend stuck a finger in a fan and was injured, so he took the fan outside and threw it in a ditch. Police said the man also threw an ashtray at a bartender and fought with responding police.

The man, George B. King, 33, of 700 N. Waverly Road, Porter, was arrested Thursday night on charges of felony battery, battery, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, public intoxication, resisting and disorderly conduct. The tavern is at U.S. 20 and Ind. 149.

Firefighters extinguish vehicle fire along Ind. 2

PORTER TOWNSHIP | A Crown Point man told Porter County police he was driving southbound on Ind. 2, near County Road 450 South, when his vehicle began to lose power.

The man, Kenneth Kissel, told police he pulled to the side of the road and shut off his 1998 Pontiac. However, he noticed smoke and then flames coming from under the hood. Firefighters responded and extinguished the fire.

Youths among 3 arrested in thefts from vehicles

PORTAGE | Portage police said an adult and two juveniles were arrested shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday in connection with the theft of items from vehicles.

Arrested were Paul Prickett, 18, of Portage, a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old, also from Portage. Police listed Richard Ehlers, of the 2400 block of Venus, as one of the victims.

Police advise residents of sex offender in city

VALPARAISO | The Valparaiso Police Department is alerting residents that a sex offender has moved into the city.

Joshua Kaufman, 22, has moved to 208 Sturdy Road. He is a 5-foot-7, 167-pound white male with brown hair and blue eyes. He is a convicted child molester. Visit www.valparaisopolice.org for more information.

Theft. Grandview Avenue resident Clifford Cox reported $700 worth of stereo equipment stolen from his vehicle.

Theft. West Porter Avenue resident Lisa Subartowicz reported a $120 bicycle stolen from her garage.

Theft. Chesterton resident George Tomlin reported a bicycle stolen from south 14th Street. A resident turned in the bicycle to police and it was returned to Tomlin.

SUNDAY

Theft. High Point Drive resident Jeffrey Richey reported a $2,500 laptop computer stolen from his work truck.

Theft. High Point Drive resident Susan Chubbs reported someone entered three vehicles in her driveway, taking items from two. Stolen were cigarettes, a radio, change and a checkbook. The loss is $155.

Theft. High Point Drive resident Theodore Schultz reported $90 stolen from his truck.

Theft. Woodstone Path resident John King reported a $275 DVD player stolen from his vehicle.

Vandalism. Merganser Drive resident George Jamison reported $1,000 damage to his truck's windshield and rear window.

Vandalism. Cinnamon Teal Court resident Robert Urycki reported $350 damage to his car's windshield.

Vandalism. Cinnamon Teal Court residents Bryan and Jessica Watts reported $600 damage to their vehicle's windshield.

Vandalism. Winamac resident Glenn Gorby reported $500 damage to the rear window of his vehicle in the 500 block of west County Road 600 North in Portage Township.

Theft. Southfield Lane resident Brian Houser reported a $100 GPS unit and a $250 handgun stolen from his car.

Theft. Woodland Hickory Court resident Callahan McClusky reported a $10 wallet and $500 worth of compact discs stolen from his truck.

Theft. Pinewood Drive resident Courtney Hager reported a $120 bicycle stolen from near her garage.

Theft. Baltimore Road resident Amy Mote told police someone broke into her car and stole her wallet. Someone used her debit card or cards several times after the theft.
