A thief posing as a Highland town employee stole cash from a home Wednesday, police said.
The man told a resident of Highland's Homestead neighborhood he was a water department employee sent to inspect the plumbing, according to a news release from the Highland Police Department. When the impostor left, the resident found a "large amount" of cash missing, according to the news release.
Police believe the crime may be related to a scam reported in Griffith, said Highland police Deputy Cmdr. George Georgeff.
The suspect is described as being between 40 and 50 years old, white, short, heavy-set and clean-shaven. The man drove a gray or green minivan, according to the release.
Police remind residents that Highland town employees should show a town identification card when visiting residents at home.
