MEN'S FLAG FOOTBALL
A United States Flag and Touch Football League-sanctioned men's flag football league will meet at 10 a.m. Sundays, beginning April 13, at Portage High School, 6450 E. U.S. 6. Teams will play in an eight-versus-eight format with a maximum of 25 players per roster. The league will use a three-flag belt system, and no tackling is allowed. The league will be divided into an upper and lower division. There will be two 10-week sessions, each consisting of eight weeks of regular season games and two weeks of play-offs. The cost is $450 per team. Players younger than 18 years must have parents' signed release. Download rosters from www.ci.portage.in.us/parks.
RED HATS
The third annual Red Hat Luncheon will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. April 13 in the Oakwood Grand Hall at Woodland Park. Red Hatters from around the region are invited to attend this event that features entertainment, vendor booths, refreshments and door prizes. The cost is $25 per person. Bring someone who isn't a member of the Red Hat Society and enter to win a special prize. Luncheon tickets are available, through April 7, at the Portage parks department office at Woodland Park.
'SWEET CHARITY'
Portage parks department is accepting reservations for an April 17 bus trip to see a performance of "Sweet Charity" at the Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from Woodland Park and will return at about 5 p.m. The trip includes lunch at 11:30 a.m., and the show at 1:30 p.m. This trip is for adults only. The cost is $60 per resident and $65 per nonresident. Register by April 15 at the parks' office at Woodland Park.
RUMMAGE SALE
Booth spaces are available for the Portage parks department's annual Anything Goes spring rummage sale, to be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 19 in the Oakwood Grand Hall at Woodland Park. Indoor and outdoor booth spaces will be available. A booth space costs $20 for inside spaces and $15 for outside spaces. Rent rectangular tables for $5 each. Register at the parks' office at Woodland Park.
CLEAN HOUSE . . . CLEAN PLANET | Portage
Go green and learn to make your own housecleaning products during Clean House . . . Clean Planet from 10 a.m. to noon March 29 in the Blue Spruce Room at Woodland Park. Portage parks department and the Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County present this program. The cost is $5 per person and includes all supplies. Children younger than 15 years must be accompanied by an adult. Register by March 22 at the parks' office at Woodland Park.
ADULT SOFTBALL
Registration is being taken now for Portage parks department's adult summer softball league. The season begins April 28 at Imagination Glen Park, 2275 McCool Road. Participants must be at least 18 years old. The cost is $500 per team if registration is received by April 12 and $550 per team if the fee is received after that date.Teams will play an 18-game schedule in nine weeks and will play in one of four divisions. The lower division plays on Mondays. The middle division plays on Tuesdays. The upper division plays on Wednesdays. The co-ed teams will play on Thursdays. Sign up as a team or as an individual. Download a roster from the city's Web site at www.ci.portage.in.us/parks. Completed rosters and registration fees can be returned to the parks' office at Woodland Park.
COMMUNITY DANCE
Portage parks department and Miller's Senior Living Community - Assisted Living Apartments will host a community dance from 6 to 9 p.m. April 20 in Sycamore Hall at Woodland Park. The cost is $5 per person. Light refreshments will be provided. The next dance will be May 18.
YOGA RETREAT
A yoga retreat featuring an introduction to beginner yoga, meditation, breath practice and self-care planning is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 19 at the Portage Yacht Club, 1370 Ind. 249. The retreat is for adults. The cost is $30 per resident and $35 per nonresident. Register by April 14 at the Portage parks department office at Woodland Park.
JUST DANCE
Portage parks department will offer Just Dance for women from 4 to 6 p.m. April 6 at the Portage Yacht Club, 1370 Ind. 249. No prior dance experience is necessary. The cost is $3. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and bring water. The next date for Just Dance will be May 4. Register the Tuesday before class.
KARATE
Portage parks department and Fighting Arts Dojo Family Karate offer a karate program Mondays and Wednesdays at the Portage Yacht Club, 1370 Ind. 249. Ages 4 to 7 years meet from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Ages 8 to 12 years meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Ages 13 years and older meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Cost is $60 per person per month, $50 for a second family member and $40 per month for each additional family member after that. Register by the first Monday of each month at the Portage parks' office at Woodland Park.
WOMEN'S YOGA
Portage parks department offers a women's only yoga class from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesdays in Sycamore Hall at Woodland Park. Cynthia Smith-Faught will lead the adult class. The cost is $30 per resident and $35 per nonresident. Participants should bring a towel or mat to sit on, wear comfortable clothing and bring water. Register at the parks' office at Woodland Park.
CO-ED YOGA

CHEERLEADING
Portage parks department has partnered with Young Champions to provide weekly cheerleading classes for boys and girls through June 9 in Oakwood Grand Hall at Woodland Park. There will be no classes on March 24 and May 26. This class is for ages 4 to 15 years old and will include choreographed pompom and dance routines. Students also will learn cheers, chants, jumps, stunts, kicks and other skills required for school cheerleader tryouts. No experience is needed. Participants will perform at special events throughout the program. The cost is $7 per class. Register in advance.
DODGEBALL TOURNEY
Portage parks department will offer dodgeball tournaments at 1 p.m. March 22 and May 31 in the Oakwood Grand Hall at Woodland Park. These tournaments are for participants 15 years and older; participants younger than 18 must have a parent's signed release. Teams can be male, female or co-ed. The cost is $30 per team.
