HAUNTED HOUSE | Hebron
Hebron National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring its annual Haunted House Oct. 30 and 31. Hours are 4:30 to 6 p.m. for ages 9 and younger and 7:30 to 10:30 for ages 10 and older. Hours for Oct. 31 are 7:30 to 10 p.m. Admission is $3 for ages 10 and older and $1 for ages 9 and younger. All proceeds go towards helping Hebron families in need during the winter holidays.

HAUNTED TRAIL RIDE | Porter County
ABATE of Indiana sponsors a Phantom of the Pines Haunted Trail Ride from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 24 and 31 and 7 to midnight Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 at Pines Ski Lodge, 684 Meridian Road. Cost is $5; children younger than 6 are free with an adult. There also is a bake sale, food and drinks.

TERROR TOWN | Chesterton
Terror Town of Chesterton - Nightmare on Brown Avenue event begins at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 24, 25, 31 and Nov. 1 at 100 Brown Ave. This is an indoor festival with something for everyone. Pass through the haunted halls of Madness Mansion, games, prizes, fortune telling and face painting at the Creepy Carnival and try the ghoulish gourmet treats. There will be a lights on version through the haunted house from 3:30 to 5 p.m. with a lights off version from 6 to 10 p.m. There also will be a costume contest each night at 5:30 p.m.; win a prize. There is free parking. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for ages 10 and younger. Proceeds from the event benefit the Duneland Extreme Sport's Park and the Duneland Boys & Girls Club.

Halloween workshop bash | Porter County

Halloween party | Portage
The Portage Township YMCA, 3100 Willowcreek Road, will host its 11th annual Halloween party from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct.17. All members of the community are invited to join the fun. The event will feature a costume judging contest for all ages, pumpkin decorating, arts and crafts, games, food and treat bags for all children. Costume judging will begin promptly at 6:45 p.m. and all other activities will begin at 7:15 p.m. The cost of admission is $10 per nonmember and $5 per household with a valid Y membership.

Portage Tri-Kappa and Woodland Park will sponsor a Halloween Fest from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Woodland Park There are games, prizes, crafts, treat bags, hot dogs, chips and dessert and all is included in the $6 price per child, for ages 2 to 12. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

BooFest 2008 | Portage
Nativity of Our Savior Home & School Association and Youth Group present BooFest 2008 from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 25 at the parish grounds and hall, 2929 Willowcreek Road. There will be haunted walking trails, tractor drawn hayrides, bonfire, pumpkin patch, walking tacos, homemade candy, walking smores, moonwalk, indoor Halloween themed games and activities and more. Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra and music director/conductor Kirk Muspratt present a night of haunting good fun at the annual Halloween Pops concert, "Monsters & Magic." It's at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Star Plaza Theatre, Interstate 65 and U.S. 30. Concertgoers are encouraged to dress in their favorite costumes. Prizes will be awarded by Muspratt throughout the evening to the best costumes from the orchestra, youth orchestra, ushers and audience. Bring the kids to "Trunk or Treat" from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at Church of the Four Seasons, 9100 E. 109th Ave., across from the Lakes of the Four Seasons entrance. There will be fun for the whole family with a bonfire, hot dogs, s'mores, hay rides and a children's costume parade and contest (no scary costumes please) Trunk or Treat, with children trick-or-treating from the trunk of cars instead of walking through the neighborhoods. Adults are welcome to bring treats and distribute them to the youngsters from their cars.

COSTUME PHOTOS | Hobart
Make A Difference Day benefits St. Jude House, a shelter in Crown Point for victims of domestic abuse. Master photographers Edda Taylor, William Eaton and Royce Chenore donate their time to take studio quality photos of children in their Halloween costumes or everyday clothing, or families, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25 at Westfield Southlake Mall on U.S. 30. Cost is $30, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting St. Jude House. Children also receive a bag of goodies.
