CROWN POINT | Lymann Spurlock pleaded guilty Wednesday to three felonies relating to the 2006 shooting death of 19-year-old Marlon Joshua in Gary.
Spurlock, of Gary, admitted to two counts of felony attempted battery and one count of felony assisting a criminal for driving the car from Donte Gildon shot the victim, Lake Criminal Court records state.
Joshua was standing outside a Gary apartment May 23, 2006, in the 500 block of Garfield Street when the car in which Gildon was traveling drove by, police said.
Gildon, of Gary, said, "Hey cuz," and opened fire with a Tech 9 handgun, killing Joshua, court records allege.
Lake County Criminal Court Judge Clarence Murray sentenced Donte Gildon, of Gary, earlier this year to 62 years in prison and three years of probation for his role in the drive-by shooting.
Spurlock admitted he stopped the vehicle, in which Gildon was a passenger, in front of Joshua.
After Joshua ran, Spurlock put the vehicle in reverse and Gildon continued to shoot at Joshua, court records state.
In return for Spurlock's guilty plea, Lake County prosecutors agreed to dismiss one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Spurlock faces up to 16 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 1.
