DePauw | Greencastle, Ind.

Two Valparaiso students received scholarships during DePauw University's academic awards convocation.

Alexander Preston Breitinger, a junior, was presented with the Dow Foundation Scholarship. The Dow Chemical Company Foundation provides four-year scholarships to students who major in chemistry and plan careers in the chemical professions. Selection is based on superior academic performance.

Jac Alan Cooper, a junior, was presented with the Truman G. Yuncker Endowed Merit Scholarship at DePauw's academic awards convocation. The Truman G. Yuncker Endowed Merit Scholarship was established for outstanding junior biology majors.

St. Francis | Joliet, Ill.

David Masciotra, of Dyer, was awarded the Meritorious Service Award at University of St. Francis. The Meritorious Service Award is awarded to one or two students in each department of the university. Each department and/or college was asked to nominate a graduating senior who best represents the university values of respect, compassion, service and integrity.

Manchester | North Manchester, Ind.

Area students made the spring semester dean's list at Manchester College. They were Scott Stalbaum, of Hebron, a social studies education major and graduate of Hebron High School; David Erpelding, of Lowell, an accounting major and graduate of Lowell Senior High School; Rachelle Steggerda, of Valparaiso, a mathematics education major and graduate of Valparaiso Community Schools; and Andrew Tkacs, of Valparaiso, a history major and graduate of Wheeler High School.

Purdue | West Lafayette, Ind.

First cousins Shane Vouga and Holly Melton both completed their junior year at Purdue University with a 4.0 GPA. Vouga is studying communications and pre-law while Melton is studying nursing. Vouga is the son of John Mark Vouga and Geri Rose, of Valparaiso. Vouga is spending his summer in Toledo, Spain, and is planning on attending law school after graduation from Purdue in 2008. Melton is the daughter of David Melton and Carol Schnadenberg, of Chesterton. Melton is spending her summer interning at a local hospital and plans to graduate from Purdue in 2008 with a registered nursing degree.

Rose-Hulman | Terre Haute, Ind.

Brian Hoesman, of Chesterton, made the spring semester dean's list at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He just completed his junior year and is a civil engineer major. His parents are Ken and Mary Jane Hoesman, of Chesterton.

Emory College | Atlanta

Dorothy Chyung, of Dyer, daughter of Chie-Hong Chyung and Sang Young Chyung , was named to the spring semester dean's list at Emory College.

University of Evansville | Evansville, Ind.

Area students were named to the spring semester dean's list at University of Evansville. To be named to the dean's list, students must have a 3.5 GPA or higher while carrying 12 or more credit hours.

Ashton Devries, of DeMotte; Tewande Oshodi-Adebayo, of Homewood; Joel Hobbs, of Thornton; and Jennifer Marshall, of Valparaiso; were named to the spring semester dean's list at Elmhurst College. Students on the dean's list have attained a GPA of 3.75 or higher.

St. Francis | Fort Wayne

Jovan Jeftich, of Valparaiso, made the dean's list for the spring semester at the University of St. Francis. He is majoring in communications.
