American Girl Club

About the group: Newly formed. Open to girls in grades two through five. Monthly meetings focus on a different American Girl doll. Meets at Hebron Public Library, 201 W. Sigler St.

Mission: American Girl Club is an opportunity to learn about a different American Girl doll and their time period.

Special events: Participants will read the chapter book before the meeting to have the background for the program. Earlier this month the program was Meet Julie, a doll from the 1970s. Attendees ate fondue, made macramé bracelets and pet rocks. They learned to do a dance from that time, like the hustle and played a game. A program focusing on Samantha, who is from the Victorian era, included a tea party and attendees made hair bows and silhouettes. Monthly meetings will include an activity and refreshment to tie in with the doll and her story.

Advice: "It easier to interpret history with a story and a girl relatable to them," said head of library youth services Meghan Hogan.

How to get involved: The next meeting is 3:30 to 5 p.m. Feb. 13 at Hebron Public Library, 201 W. Sigler St. Cost is $5 and is due at registration. Space is limited. For more information, call (219) 996-3684.

People might be surprised to know: "How much fun they'll have," said Meghan Hogan.
