Wanatah and LaCrosse news with Grace Chambly
St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, LaCrosse, will have a Thanksgiving Day mass at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27.
St. John's Lutheran Churches in Wanatah and LaCrosse will have a joint Thanksgiving Day service at 9 a.m. Nov. 27 at the LaCrosse facility. Joel Steven Zipay is pastor of both churches. A collection of nonperishable items for the Supplemental United Pantry will be received.
LaCrosse Lions Club charter night
Members of the LaCrosse Lions Club celebrated Charter Night Sunday. Frank Swanson was honored as the only charter member still currently active in the club. Special guests included Lion's District Governor Kevin Roe; past district governor Margaret Verkuilen and Lion members from the clubs of San Pierre, Hanna, Kouts, Wheatfield and Wanatah. The group discussed events of past years.
South Central school news
The South Central School Board media specialist Nancy McGriff was honored for her U.S. Teacher Award from Indiana. Also attending and giving her another award were state representatives James Arnold and Tom Dermody.
Jeanette Borzych was granted maternity leave.
Athletic Director Kevin Hannon submitted his resignation effective Nov. 11.
Members discussed the Classified Employees Handbook and tabled a decision until the December meeting.
In discussing improvements to the school facility the project is two weeks ahead of schedule.
The board approved work changes.
Wanatah news
Wanatah Public Library will close for Thanksgiving and the Friday and Saturday following. The library will reopen Dec. 1.
Drive continues
The Koselke-Mayfield American Legion Post is continuing their drive to collect funds to purchase a heavy duty extractor and a cutting instrument to be used to cut wrecked vehicles to remove injured passengers. The tools are intended for the Cass-Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department in Wanatah.
