CEDAR LAKE: Family, friends mourn two who died in Monday morning blaze
CEDAR LAKE | The Monday death of a Cedar Lake woman marked the second time in nine years that Theresa Fox lost a family member to tragedy.
While the Lake County coroner still hasn't identified the two bodies burned beyond recognition and found Monday in the ruins of a Cedar Lake home at 14007 Fairbanks St., Fox, said her mother, Gail Garcia, 58, and her mother's companion, Ronnie Broomhead, died in the blaze. Both victims died from smoke inhalation and burns, the coroner reported.
On July 18, 1998, Fox also lost her twin sister, Heather Dovichi, to what the coroner said was an accidental overdose of an undetermined narcotic that caused vascular collapse. No one was charged with any wrongdoing in Dovichi's death.
Investigators said they expect to have some answers about Monday's fire by Friday. However, the results of tests on materials sent to the state lab won't be available for weeks, Cedar Lake Fire Chief Todd Wilkening said.
