Van trips | Homewood

H-F Park District has spaces available for its final van trips for the summer.

Travel to The Mercury Theater, 3745 N. Southport Ave., Chicago, for a production of "The Kid From Brooklyn." This old-fashioned book musical spanning several decades tells the private and public life story of funny man Danny Kaye.

Mercury Theater trip is from 12:30 to 5:45 p.m. Aug. 13. Fee of $72 per person includes van transportation and theater admission.

Enjoy a family-style lunch at Skokie's Toscana restaurant followed by Don Angelo's "Tribute to George Burns" at the Skokie Theatre Music Foundation, 7924 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

Skokie lunch and theater trip is from 9:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Aug. 27. Fee of $40 per person includes van transportation, lunch and show.

Trips depart from and return to the Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. Registration for trips is required.

Support group | Hazel Crest

Advocate South Suburban Hospital, 17800 S. Kedzie Ave., hosts free health awareness programs monthly. A support group will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Aug. 13 to discuss Parkinson's disease.

Back to school | South Suburbs

IKANN, Invincible Kids Accepting Nothing Negative, is hosting a back-to-school giveaway and collecting items for its August distribution. They are seeking gift certificates, monetary donations, merchandise and school supplies. Items needed include bookbags, backpacks, calculators, notebook paper, spiral notebook paper, pens, pencils, colored pencils, markers, dictionaries, folders, scissors, rulers, protractors, compass, glue and glue sticks, paste, pencil-pen cases, three-ring notebook binders, crayons and more for ages 5 to 18. Donations can be dropped off at the group's Hazel Crest location, 17065 Dixie Highway, Suite 23. Or arrangements can be made to pick up the items.

Discount tickets | Calumet City

The Calumet Memorial Park District is selling discount tickets to Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor. Purchase an adult ticket for $35, a child's ticket for $29, or a two-day pass for $52. DOO-WOP GROUP | Calumet Area

Remember When, a doo-wop, a capalla vocal group, will perform at the 50th reunion for the 1958 class of Hammond Tech on Sept. 6. The group is made up of 1958 and 1959 graduates of the school. They are Harold Hull, who sang with The Kingsmen from 1955-621 Bob Luther, who sang with The Kingsmen from 1955-62; Bill Schmidt, who sang with The Gents in 1957, The Premiers from 1958 to 60, Yesterdays' Rhythm from 1976-79 and with Chorus of the Dunes 1968-72; and Mike Whitmore, who sang with The Gents in 1957, the Premiers from 1958-60, Yesterdays' Rhythm from 1976-88 and Stormy Weather from 1988-92. They came together about a year ago following Hammond Tech's annual Music Night. Since then, the group has been practicing weekly and sings at benefits and community events.

FABULOUS FIFTIES | Hammond

Children can travel back to the fabulous '50s during vacation Bible school at First United Methodist Church, 6635 Hohman Ave. Sessions are 5:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 11 to 15. The theme is "Sock Hop - Rockin' with the Rock of Ages." Each night activities center on the all city garage, bowl-o-rama, malt shop, Spunky's club house and the sock hop. Children 4 to 11 years old are invited. Register.

ART, CRAFT FAIR | Munster

Munster Parks and Recreation Department seeks artists and crafts for its summer arts and crafts fair Aug. 16 and 17 at Community Park, 8601 Calumet Ave. Mediums accepted include paintings, drawings, graphics, sculpture, pottery, candles, photography, leather, floral, ceramics, jewelry, carvings, needlework, blown or stained glass and woodcrafts to name a few. No jobbers or flea market items are accepted. The fee is $90 per 15-by-15 booths. Applications may be submitted to the parks office at Town Hall, 1005 Ridge Road.
