Tucker Carlson to open 55th Sinai Forum season
Television and print journalist Tucker Carlson will open the 55th season of the Sinai Forum Presented by Purdue University North Central at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at Elston Middle School in Michigan City.
Carlson joined MSNBC in February 2005 from CNN, where he was the youngest anchor in the history of that network. At CNN, he hosted a number of shows and specials, including the network's political debate program, Crossfire. During the same period, Carlson also hosted a weekly public affairs program on PBS, Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered.
A longtime magazine and newspaper journalist, Carlson has reported from around the world, most recently from Iraq and Lebanon. He has been a columnist for New York magazine and Reader's Digest. He currently writes for Esquire, The Weekly Standard and New York Times Magazine. Carlson began his journalism career at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper in Little Rock.
All Sinai Forum programs are held at Elston Middle School, 317 Detroit St., Michigan City. Subscription tickets may be purchased in person from the Michigan City Public Library, Kabelin Hardware, 512 Andrews Ave., LaPorte and at PNC-Porter County Graduate Center, 600 Vale Park Road, Valparaiso. PORTER COUNTY
County roads to close on Tuesday for paving
The Porter County Highway Department and Rieth-Riley Construction will close County Road 400 East in Morgan Township on Tuesday from Division Road to County Road 100 South for asphalt paving.
The Highway Department also will close Division Road in Porter/Union Township on Tuesday from County Road 500 West to County Road 600 West for culvert replacement.

Taltree offers free admission on Sept. 11
On Sept. 11, Taltree Arboretum and Gardens will offer the public free admission to the grounds in memory of the events of Sept. 11,2001. Taltree's gardens, winding paths and waters provide a perfect setting for quiet reflection and remembrance of that day.
Gates will be open for extended hours from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
