ART ATTACK | Cedar Lake

All ages may choose from a variety of crafts to create art for home and for display at the library during a Family Story Time program at 6:30 p.m. March 31 at the Lake County Public Library's Cedar Lake branch, 10010 W. 133rd Ave. There will also be the opportunity to hear and participate in fun and creative tales.

TEEN GAMING | Lake Station

It's spring break and time for another Gaming Day from 2 to 4 p.m. March 25 at the Lake County Public Library's Lake Station-New Chicago branch, 2007 Central Ave. Play Guitar Hero and DDR. The Red Octane controllers and dance pads are a great way to enjoy hit songs. Refreshments will be provided.

CELEBRATE SPRING | Lake Station

YOUTH SOCCER | Hobart

Hobart Family YMCA is offering an outdoor youth soccer league for boys and girls in age groups 3-4 and 5-7. The cost is $30 for members and $60 for nonmembers. Registration runs through March 31. The season is set to begin April 19. All games will be played on Saturdays. Teams will practice once a week for one hour.

PRESCHOOL PROGRAM | Hobart

Hobart Family YMCA is accepting registration for its fall 2008-09 Developmental Preschool program at the YMCA, 601 West 40th Place. A $50 nonrefundable registration fee along with birth certificate and immunization records are requested at registration. Classes are offered in the morning and the afternoon. The 3- and 4-year-old and pre-kindergarten classes have limited openings.

The program includes many components in the child's learning experiences that stimulate a young mind and influences a lifetime of learning ability. Children learn through a variety of fun academics, social and developmental activities such as learning centers, music, arts and crafts, computers, Pre-Fit, a creative movement program, character development, swim-time, gym time, field trips and parties.

MENTOR A YOUTH | Lake Village

Lake Village Elementary School needs volunteers to come to school during school hours to talk and interact with students on a regular basis. Mentoring young people can be a very rewarding experience. Parental permission will be procured prior to the child's participation. A background check is required and the school office needs to be contacted to match students and mentors.
