Nominations are now open for the 2008 Quality of Life Council Awards, and will be accepted through Aug.18, the group reported Tuesday.

The Quality of Life Council seeks the names of individuals who have had a major impact in the areas of economic development, environmental well-being and/or social inclusion. Also, a special category -- The Promise of the Future Awards -- are for youth and young adults under the age of 21 who are making a difference in the community.

For the past six years, the Northwest Indiana Quality of Life Council has recognized outstanding individuals who have helped improve Northwest Indiana's shared quality of life.

The Quality of Life Council focuses on a broad range of public policy issues pertaining to Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties. It is chaired on a rotating basis by the presidents and chancellors of Northwest Indiana's six colleges and universities.

The 2008 awards are scheduled to be presented at a luncheon Sept. 24 at the Majestic Star Ballroom in Gary. Nomination forms can be accessed on the QLC website at www.nwiqlc.org or by calling the office at (219) 531-4200, ext. 4206.
