CHESTERTON | Westchester Public Library's book review series, Bookmarks at the Museum, will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Westchester Township History Museum, an educational service of Westchester Public Library. The museum is housed in the Brown Mansion at 700 W. Porter Ave., Chesterton. Local author Linda Wells will review the book The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society is a novel written in the form of letters sent to London author Juliet Ashton after the end of WWII. The letters, from the residents of Guernsey Island, a British dependency in the English Channel off the coast of France, tell of the residents' heroism and deprivations. The letters also tell of the unique book club they formed during the island's occupation by Germany during WWII.
Bookmarks at the Museum is a free series which takes place monthly at 2 p.m. at the Westchester Township History Museum and as Bookmarks at Noon at Michigan City Public Library. The program at the museum begins at 2 p.m. and ends at approximately 2:45 p.m. The reviews take place on Thursday in Chesterton and on Friday in Michigan City. Coffee, tea, and cookies will be served.
Bookmarks at the Museum will meet next on Nov. 20 when Susan Nichols will review Loving Frank.
It is not necessary to have read the books in advance to enjoy the presentation. Both Thomas and Hageman Library have copies of the books reviewed in the series. For more information, call the museum at (219) 983-9715.
