Would you like to see where John Dillinger was housed while in Crown Point's jail? Walk on the same ground as Johnny Depp as he filmed the upcoming flick "Public Enemy"?

The Old Sheriff's House Foundation is giving tours of the South Main Street house and jail from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays through October. The cost is $5 for ages 12 and older, $2 for children 6 to 11 and free for children 5 and younger.

Visit the Farmer's Market while downtown from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Meeting the global challenge

First Financial Bank will host "Global Competition and College Success," a free event to help parents prepare their children to meet this real challenge, from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 16 at the bank at 11890 Broadway.

Register for programs online

Crown Point Community Library has announced that patrons may now register for programs online. This new service began in August and includes story time and school-age programs that require registration. To register, go to http://www.icongrp.com/~refcpel/ and click on Library Events. Select the event and fill in the appropriate information. There is an option to receive an e-mail reminder that will arrive three days before the program.

This service will also allow patrons to view availability of program space or to put their name on a wait list for a program. Patrons will still need to call the library if they are unable to attend the program or to have their name removed from the list.

The library is currently accepting story time registration for Book Babies, Tot Time and Little Listeners. Book Babies is for children from birth to 24 months, Tot Time is for children 2 and 3, and Little Listeners is for children 4 to 6.

Murder mystery dinner

The Old Sheriff's House Foundation is hosting "Murder in Mayberry," a murder mystery dinner fundraiser, Oct. 3 at St. Elijah Serbian-American Hall, 8700 Taft St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the action starts at 6.

Tickets are $50. There will be a silent auction and a cash bar. Call (219) 663-5994 or (219) 765-5655.

Music and movies

Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra will host its student program Oct. 22 at the Star Plaza Theater in Merrillville. They will offer 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. concerts teaching students how movies come alive through the magic of music.

The cost to attend these entertaining and informative concerts is $5 per student/adult. There is a preprogram packet available, which can be requested at registration.
