Take an island-hopping tour for vacation Bible school week, July 14 to 18, at Orchard Drive Baptist Church, 3425 Orchard Drive. A VBS kickoff is set for 11 a.m. to noon. During the week, parents join their children from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. to travel to Craft Island, Recreation Island, Snack Island, Music Island and Photo Island. Attendees will learn the motions to a theme song, make a craft, play games, enjoy a theme-related snack and take a photo with their child.

BIBLE SCHOOL | Highland

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church offers Luther Road, a traveling day camp and vacation Bible school July 13 through 18 at 3711 Ridge Road. The theme is Power Lab, Discovering Jesus' Miraculous Power. The day camp is a five-day, all-day program that includes fun, worship, games, Bible study, sharing and recreation. It's open to youths entering first through seventh grade. Camp opens at 9 and parents pick up their children at 4 p.m. Snacks and lunch are included. Preschoolers can attend a program from 9 a.m. to noon. At 7 p.m. July 13, an ice cream social will allow parents and children to meet and greet counselors, who will entertain with songs and skits. at 7 p.m. July 17, campers will share songs and skits from the camp with family and friends. Although both programs are free, donations are welcome. Registration is required.

RAINFOREST ADVENTURE | Griffith

A popular regional vacation Bible school will be held 9 a.m. to noon July 14 to 18 at Griffith Lutheran Church, 1000 N. Broad St. This year's theme is Rainforest Adventure. Preschoolers through fifth-graders will enjoy crafts, games, music, and Bible stories and complete a mission project. A closing program with refreshments will be at 6 p.m. July 18. The children will perform songs and dances they learned during the week. There is no cost, but registration is requested.

POWER LAB | Hammond

Vacation Bible school is offered July 21 to 24 at First Presbyterian Church of Hammond, 6021 Hohman Ave. This year's theme, "Power Lab," has youths traveling through stations to learn more about Jesus' miraculous power through stories, crafts, games and songs. Each evening begins with dinner at 6 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. Register in advance.

SUMMER FUN WEEK | Schererville

Lake Hills Baptist Church hosts its annual summer fun week, Sonworld, July 21 to 25 at the church, 9209 W. 85th Ave. Registration beings at 8:30 a.m. and concludes by noon. Children 4 through grade 6 can discover that making the right choices can be a thrilling adventure. Lessons from the Bible, music, crafts, active outdoor games and snacks will be included each day. Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is preferred. A free musical CD will be available at registration while supplies last.
