VALPARAISO | Valparaiso University's Brauer Museum of Art has received a gift of 151 photographs taken by Andy Warhol, which include shots of celebrities like Dolly Parton and Michael Jackson.
The photo, a combination of Polaroids and gelatin silver prints, were donated to Brauer Museum by the Pittsburgh-based Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts through its Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy Program.
The works provide insight into the Pop artist's working process, according to Gregg Hertzlieb, director of Brauer Museum.
While the Brauer Museum already owns a Warhol painting of a Campbell's soup can, and the 151 new photographs will greatly enrich the museum's holdings of one of the most influential American artists of the 20th century.
One of the donated photographs, a Polaroid picture of country music artist Dolly Parton taken in 1985 by Warhol, is among the works currently displayed in Brauer Museum's "New Acquisitions Exhibition." The exhibit is on display through Aug. 4.
Among the other works received by Brauer Museum are photographs of singer Michael Jackson, golf legend Jack Nicklaus, "Doonesbury" creator Gary Trudeau, fashion designer Gianni Versace and former Fiat president Gianni Agnelli. A more extensive exhibition of the Warhol works donated to the museum will be presented Dec. 13, 2008, through March 22, 2009.
