MUNSTER | After eight years at its 45th Avenue location, Family Christian Center is aggressively looking for a new home for its $30 million building project.

The nondenominational church is putting out feelers to move into "whatever land can accommodate our plans of building a larger auditorium and educational facilities," said Pastor David Jordan Allen, church media relations director.

"Our numbers are growing, and because they are growing, we are aggressively looking at properties both in Illinois and Indiana."

Allen called Family Christian Center's Senior Pastor Stephan Munsey "a big thinker and a big dreamer. His vision is incredible for the next 10 years."

The church's international daily television program's launch is set for 2008, he said.

"In order to launch all that, we will need more space, more facilities to accommodate the magnitude of the worldwide evangelism we are about to embark on," Allen said. Trinity Broadcasting Network's 8,000 television station outlets would springboard the project.

Plans also include a 10,000-plus-seat auditorium to continue the church's classes. It eventually will offer a school for elementary and junior high students, he said.

There is a $25 million asking price for the Family Christian Center, a nearly 3,000-seat building sprawling on more than 100,000 square feet in a corridor of West Lakes subdivision, Allen said.

The church opened in April 1999 and built a back addition four years later.

The entire building is designed for large concerts, complete with acoustics and mega television facilities making it feasible for concerts to air live worldwide via satellite, with eight built-in cameras in the main auditorium, he said.

Munsey's son, Kent, and his wife, Allie, lead City Church on Sunday evenings, which serves as a satellite location at the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, 777 N. Green St., Chicago.

"Not everybody comes to services every week, but it is not enough," Allen said. "We simply need more room."
