Water main work to close sections of 173rd Street

Installation of a new water main will close 173rd Street on both sides of Calumet Avenue for a month beginning July 9.

All lanes of Calumet Avenue will stay open during the construction, which is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 10.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is replacing sewers in the area as part of a program to end the discharge of untreated sewage into the Little Calumet River, which requires reconfiguring the water line.

The work is part of INDOT's multiyear Calumet Avenue reconstruction plan.

PUC gets favorable rating for accreditation process

Purdue University Calumet has received a favorable rating from the Higher Learning Commission's Academic Quality Improvement Program team.

A component of the North Central Association, AQIP is a regional accreditation process that helps improve education quality through a system of continuous self-assessment and measurement. An AQIP review team recently visited Purdue Calumet.

"Purdue Calumet has selected an accreditation process that is both continuous and rigorous," Purdue Calumet Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Nabil Ibrahim said. "This process requires more than adherence to minimum standards of compliance. It demands comprehensive improvement in ways that benefit students, faculty, staff and, ultimately, our entire university."
