The LaPorte County Sheriff's Department is seeking the public's help identifying a "person of interest" in connection with the Oct. 20 armed robbery at the Coolspring branch of the LaPorte Savings Bank.

Police on Wednesday released a photo of a white man who was in the same bank branch one week earlier. His identity is not known, according to police, but detectives want to talk with him. The person is not a suspect, however, investigators would like identify him and potentially speak with him.

Just after 9 a.m. Oct. 20, two men went inside LaPorte Savings Bank at 6959 W. Johnson Road and ordered the employees to the floor at gunpoint. With the silent alarm activated, both suspects acted quickly in obtaining money and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. LaPorte County Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer said it was difficult to get a good physical description because the two men wore sweatshirts with the hoods pulled over their heads.

Their faces also were covered by something similar to a bandana.

A witness followed the suspects down County Road 400 North and 525 West then lost sight of them on Johnson Road heading toward LaPorte.

The robbers were in a white newer model Pontiac.

Anyone with information about the man in the photograph or about the armed robbery should call Detective Michael Raymer at 326-7700 or 879-3530 ext. 2403.
