HIGHLAND | Car, bike and truck enthusiasts can view a variety of vehicles while helping a young girl.
Hotrods for Hannah will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 26 at O'Hara Sports, 2440 45th St., behind Webb Ford.
Hannah, 2 years old, is the granddaughter of Doug and Alice Bonham, who have attended many local car shows with their purple over silver 1965 Chevy Chevelle.
Doug Bonham was chairman for the March of Dimes for several years, working every day for 50 weeks a year for five years for the organization. Health issues required him to stop his efforts.
Hannah has been diagnosed with complex mitochondrial disease, a rare genetic order that affects every moment of her life. She suffers daily from seizures, muscle deterioration as well as heart and brain maladies, according to a news release. She needs a specialized wheelchair to get around.
Specialists recently told her family that they will need to install air purifiers in their home because of their daughter's predisposition to infection.
The entry fee for the show is $20. More than 40 trophies and special awards will be presented, and the first 100 entrants will receive dash plaques. People's choice awards will be given in first, second and third place. The event also includes a Paul Shafer Motorsports monster truck, a 50-50 raffle, a bake sale raffles for two windows to be tinted and a girls bicyce and a bean bag contest.
Sponsors and donations still are needed. For more information, call (219) 845-9112 or 844-4252.
