A bill that would allow land donations to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and aim to improve a Lakeshore visitor center passed the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Ind., would allow the federal government to accept donations of lands that touch the park or are separated from the park by a right of way, according to a news release from Visclosky's office. The bill also would allow the U.S. interior department to form a partnership with Porter County to improve services at the Dorothy Buell Memorial Visitor Center, according to the release. The bill also authorizes $1.5 million in spending on visitor center exhibits, according to the release.
"The legislation helps protect and enhance the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore," said Tom Anderson, executive director of the Save the Dunes Council, in the release.
The bill passed 376-11, according to the release.
