Beer truck catches fire on I-94, some alcohol lost in incident
A beer truck caught fire Friday morning on Interstate 94 at the 22 mile marker, which is in the Porter and Burns Harbor area.
Firefighters were sent to a report of a fully-engulfed trailer shortly before 10:30 a.m. They extinguished the fire. There was a report of some of the beer spilling.
Indiana State Police also responded to the fire.
Police: Man offered $1,500 in radon help to avoid DUI arrest
CHESTERTON | Chesterton police said a man found to be driving while intoxicated in a red Corvette in the Golfview subdivision at 9 p.m. Thursday offered to put a $1,500 radon gas abatement system in the police officer's home in exchange for not being arrested, and told the officer there was a 90 percent chance the home had a radon problem.
The officer wasn't influenced by the offer and arrested the man, Randall Sisk, 47, of 3685 Drivers Way, Chesterton, on a drunken driving charge. Police said Sisk was taken to Porter hospital for a blood alcohol test. While there, police said Sisk flirted with a nurse, introduced himself to random people and talked in a child's voice, saying, "I don't like you. You won't play with me."
Six arrested in hotel room on drug, alcohol charges Thursday
CHESTERTON | Chesterton police received a noise complaint at 3:15 a.m. Thursday involving a room at Hilton Garden Inn, 501 Gateway Boulevard.
Police said the room renter, Matthew Hoadley, 22, of Chesterton, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and furnishing alcohol to minors.
Five people were arrested on underage drinking charges. They are Heidi Kuhl, 19, who has addresses in Valparaiso and Hammond; Haley Ferrer, 18, of Hammond; Michelle Novak, 19, of Hammond; Laquinn Deloney, 18, of Milwaukee, Wis.; and Daniel Page, 19, of Chesterton.
