GARY | The RailCats cut pitcher Joe Panozzo before Tuesday's game against Fargo-Moorhead.
Panozzo, who was picked up May 27, had a 4.50 ERA in six innings and six games this season. He played sparingly for the RailCats last season.
"We thought right now with Joe, he joined us when we needed an extra arm," manager Greg Tagert said. "His situation, probably the Frontier League would suit him much better."
The 'Cats are expected to play with nine pitchers Tuesday against the RedHawks, and plan to bring in Kyle Kobernus to fill the opening before Wednesday's game. Kobernus still needs to clear his physical and sign a contract with the team.
The RailCats found him while working out pitchers. Kobernus was the first signed from the group of recent college graduates who were invited to work out.
"He was the most surprising," Tagert said. "He was very impressive and we brought him back to see if he could repeat that performance. He's got a good fast ball and good curve ball."
