About Megan:

Born Aug. 22, 1990.

Daughter of Benjamin and Maryann Binder of Crown Point.

Sister to Adam and Caitlin.

Granddaughter of Alfred Norlin of DeMotte and Dean and Charlotte Binder of Adrian, Mich.

Member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Crown Point.

Accomplishments: Megan Binder is a senior at Crown Point High School. She's earned academic distinction with a 4.4 grade point average and is a member and director of education for National Honor Society. She is taking Advanced Placement French IV, micro economics, calculus, English and biology along with advanced journalism. Binder is editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, Inklings. The newspaper was among the top 10 in Best of Show competition in its division at the 2008 Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association Fall National High School Journalism Convention. The monthly publication received this year's George H. Gallop Award from Quill and Scroll, Hoosier Star from Indiana High School Press Association and was a gold medalist from Columbia High School Press Association. "I am proud and happy to work with a talented staff so ready to work," she said. "I'm grateful to be able to work with them." Binder is on the Academic Decathlon team and part of

Leaders in Education and Development. She will attend Indiana University in Bloomington next year to study English or journalism. She has been admitted into Hutton Honors College.

Personal hero: "I have always liked Thomas Edison. He was so brilliant and did everything he could with what he had."

What I read: "A little bit of everything. My favorite at the moment is ‘The Book Thief'."

What I do for fun: "Hang out with friends and go out to dinner with them."

People might be surprised to know: "I climbed a brick wall that was like going up the side of a building at Universal Studios in Florida."
