LAPORTE | A local woman screamed when she saw an unknown man on her front porch wielding a knife early Friday.

The woman was sitting on her living room couch in the 400 block of John Street about 4 a.m., LaPorte police said.

When she heard the door to her front porch open, she saw a man holding a knife, police said. The man was mumbling something about needing money, the woman told police.

She screamed and ran to the kitchen where she yelled for her husband, who came downstairs. He took off after the armed man, who fled and was not caught, police said.
