Investor group seeking to eject store operators
Portage Commons seeks to eject Crazy Al's
Porter County Investors, which owns and operates the Portage Commons on U.S. 6 in Portage, filed a complaint to eject the Crazy Al's store, claiming the store has fallen behind in paying rent.
The legal action claims Allen and Carolyn Wagner, of Crazy Al's, have failed to pay rent for three months and owe $15,047.
The investor group claims it gave Crazy Al's ten-day advance notice of the action.

Sheriff's Department is mourning detective
The LaPorte County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday announced the death of Detective Sgt. Larry Biggs, a 30-year active duty member of the department. Biggs died Tuesday following a battle with cancer.
Biggs began his career in law enforcement first serving with the Rensselaer Police Department and the Kingsford Heights Marshal's Office before being hired by the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department on Sept. 1, 1977.
Biggs also has strong family ties in the law enforcement community that include his wife, Jennifer, who serves as a records clerk for the Sheriff's Department; brother Gary Biggs, who serves as a LaPorte County patrolman; brother Billy Biggs, who is a policeman with the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District Police Department; son Jeff Biggs, who serves as a detective sergeant with the Porter County Sheriff's Department; and son Jason Biggs, who is a South Bend police officer.
Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, 6941 Central Ave., Portage.
The funeral service with Law Enforcement Honors will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, Portage.

Group collecting goods to aid American troops
Members of the Patriot Guard Riders will hold a fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 7 at the intersection of U.S. 6 and Willowcreek Road.
Members will be collecting items that will be sent to troops in Iraq. Items can be dropped off at a booth at the northwest corner of the intersection in the Kmart parking lot. They also will collect funds that will be used to defray costs of shipping the items overseas and to help needy families of soldiers.
Items such as toothbrushes; toothpaste; soap; shampoo; body wash; plastic eating utensils; moist towelettes; zipper lock bags; snacks such as cookies, peanut butter, canned fruit, jerky and Vienna sausage; deodorant; women's personal items; small sewing kits; small toys such as coloring books, games and books;, cigarettes; Levi Garrett chewing tobacco; hard candy; canned or packaged soups; microwave popcorn; and shaving materials are needed.
Alcohol, anything in aerosol cans, and men's magazines will not be accepted.
