INDIANAPOLIS | Democrat Jill Long Thompson on Monday named Lake County Sheriff Rogelio "Roy" Dominguez an adviser to her campaign for Indiana governor.

Dominguez joins Marion County Sheriff Frank Anderson and Dubois County Sheriff Terry Tanner as co-chairs of the campaign's newly formed Law Enforcement for Jill Committee.

"We are all so honored to be asked to lead this group," Dominguez said. "We will do everything we can to help Jill become the next governor of Indiana - because she is exactly the type of leader we need right now."

The new committee, which will include local law enforcement officials from around the state, will advise the Long Thompson campaign on public safety, homeland security, local government and law enforcement issues.

Long Thompson, a former congresswoman from northeast Indiana, is up against Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels, who is seeking to win a second term in November.

Dominguez backed Long Thompson in a bitter May 6 primary battle she won by amassing a 10,000-vote advantage in Lake County. The Democratic stronghold handed Long Thompson a 1 percentage point victory over Indianapolis architect Jim Schellinger.
