PORTER TOWNSHIP | Felony charges were filed Monday against the Boone Grove High School students accused of spray painting the exterior of the school May 6, causing $12,000 in damage.

The two teens accused of causing the damage -- 18-year-old Christopher Block and 18-year-old Alexander Hearn -- were charged with criminal mischief. The teen accused of dropping them off at the school, 18-year-old Wesley McEwan, was charged with aiding in criminal mischief.

The teens, who were all in their senior year, face up to three years in jail if convicted.

Porter County police said the crime was solved within days after school officials received a tip about a suspect. Police Detective Eric Wiseman said in court documents he questioned Hearn at the school and got him to admit his involvement and give the names of the other two teens. Police said Hearn stated it was a "prank" that went way too far.

The teens are accused of spray painting numerous doors, steps and windows. Police said just about every door or window not facing Ind. 2 was defaced. Police said obscene comments directed toward students and a principal, as well as racial words directed toward different minorities, were spray painted on the building.

Police said they questioned Block, but he declined to give a statement. McEwan, however, told police the vandalism was Hearn's idea. McEwan told police he drove the teens to a store to buy paint and then dropped them off at the school. McEwan told police he waited at Hearn's house until they ran back about an hour later.
