Closures set for overnight to minimize impact
Times Staff Report
GARY | The Indiana Department of Transportation will temporarily restrict lanes and close a ramp over the next week while construction continues on the Major Moves New Construction on the Borman Expressway and the Interstate 65 improvement project.
Through 9 a.m. today, the eastbound right lane of the Borman, east of Broadway, will be restricted while a concrete barrier wall is moved. Two through lanes of traffic on the eastbound Borman will still be open to traffic.
From 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, the same lane of the eastbound Borman will be closed as temporary markings are placed on a newly constructed east-south ramp lane, and then traffic is moved to it. That will allow work to begin on removing and replacing the existing east-south ramp lanes.
From midnight to 5 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, the ramp from northbound I-65 to the westbound Borman will be closed during demolition of the northbound I-65 bridge over the ramp.
Message boards will direct traffic to take the posted wide load detour to reach the westbound Borman. The detour directs traffic to take the Borman east for approximately 2 miles to Ind. 51 north to the westbound Borman via the cloverleaf ramps.
The speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph on the interstates and to 40 mph on the ramps through the work zone. For more information, visit the Borman Expressway Web site at http://www.in.gov/dot/div/specialprojects/borman/index.html.
