GAME CHALLENGE | Cedar Lake

Take a spring break Game Challenge with the Cedar Lake Parks and Recreation Department from 10:30 a.m to noon today at the park office, 7408 Constitution Ave. Learn new skills or sharpen old ones by participating in Speed Stacking, dominoes, checkers, chess, and bean bag toss.

Snacks will be served at this free activity.

PLAY BALL | Lake Station

Last-minute registration for Lake Station Little League will be held all day March 27 and 5 to 7 p.m. March 28 at the Lake Station Boys & Girls Club, 4700 Central Ave. Cost is $65 for the first child and $10 for each additional child. CHEER FOR BULLDOGS | Crown Point

Crown Point Jr. Bulldog Cheerleading will hold registration for new and returning cheerleaders from 5 to 7 p.m. April 4 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 5 at Lake Street Elementary School, 475 Lake St. Prticipants must atend Cron Point schools. Coaches are needed for new teams.

DESIGN A T-SHIRT | Lake County

Lake County Soil & Water Conservation District is sponsoring its annual T-shirt Design Contest open to all students attending high school in Lake County. Cash awards will be presented as follows: $100 for first, $75 for second, $50 for third and $25 for fourth. This year's topic is "Water is Life" and the design should emphasize the importance of water. The T-shirt featuring the winning design will become a third-place prize for this years' annual poster contest, 4-H Soil and Water Conservation project contestants and students competing the public speaking contest. The entry deadline is March 30.

SKATE ON BREAK | Crown Point

Crown Point Skate Park will be open for spring break from noon to 6 p.m. daily through March 30 and April 7 through 11. Regular spring hours will be noon to 6 p.m. (weather permitting) on Saturdays and Sundays beginning April 5. The Skate Park is at 1313 E. North St. Admission fee for participants is $5 per day. Season passes are available at $25 for residents and $35 for nonresidents. Skate park passes must be purchased in the parks office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

LIBRARY IDOL | Lake Station

Think you are American Idol material? Here's your chance to compete against other teens, 12 to 17 years of age, in the area. Show off those singing skills during hometown audition from 3 to 5 p.m. March 27 at the Lake Station-New Chicago branch, 2007 Central Ave. Finalists must be able to compete April 11 at the Lake Station-New Chicago Branch Library. CELEBRATE SPRING | Lake Station

PAINTING CLASS | Lowell

PRESCHOOL IN THE PARK | Hobart

Preschool in the Park for ages 3 and 4 will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 1 to 2 p.m. Thursdays in April and May at Deep River County Park, 9410 Old Lincoln Hwy. Children may hear stories, play games, make a craft, sing songs, do finger plays, and take home a treat or coloring page. Fee is $1 per child per program and no advance registration is needed. Meet at the Visitor Center. Bring a brown bag lunch and picnic and hike in the park before or after the program. the topic April 3 is "Puppet Play" - make puppets then have them perform; April 10 is "Sit Around the Campfire" - sit around a campfire, tell stories, enjoy a sweet treat and sing songs; April 17 is "Tddy Bear Pajama Party" - bring a Teddy Bear and a pillow and blanket, and wear your pajamas for this party; April 24 is "April Showers on My Umbrella" - wear a raincoat, rain hat and boots and bring an umbrella. It may rain on the umbrellas, but not on the children. The same topics listed above are available to day care

FLAG FOOTBALL | Hobart

Hobart Family YMCA will hold a youth flag football league for boys and girls ages 8 to 11 and 12 to 15. Registration runs through March 31. Practices will be one day a week for one hour. Games will be on Saturdays beginning April 26. Cost is $30 for members and $60 for non-members.

ART ATTACK | Cedar Lake

All ages may choose from a variety of crafts to create art for home and for display at the library during a Family Story Time program at 6:30 p.m. March 31 at the Lake County Public Library's Cedar Lake branch, 10010 W. 133rd Ave. There will also be the opportunity to hear and participate in fun and creative tales.

YOUTH SOCCER | Hobart

Hobart Family YMCA is offering a youth soccer league for boys and girls in age groups 3-4 and 5-7. The cost is $30 for members and $60 for non-members. Registration runs through March 31. SOCCER TRAINING | Crown Point

Indiana Tigers Soccer Club hosts an eight-week Soccer Training Academy for ages 6 and older, April 7 through May 26, at Crown Point Health & Fitness, 1516 N. Main St. Foot skills training and goal keeper training will be offered in separate sessions by Novi Marojevic, club president and head coach who played professionally with the Chicago Storm and Detroit Ignition. Pre-registered players (by April 1) will receive a T-shirt. Cost is $150. Registration is open until April 7.

CHEER TRY OUTS | Hobart

Lisa's Gymnastics is having Cheerleader Call Outs/Try Outs for ages 4 to 18 for Levels 2, 3, & 4 at 679 Ind. 130. Registration for call outs begins on April 1 and call outs are from 2 to 5 p.m. April 12.

Registration is also available for Level 1 Cheerleading teams to begin classes April 7. There are no try outs for this level, everyone is welcome.

SPEAK AT CONTEST | Crown Point

Lake County Soil & Water Conservation District and Farm Bureau Inc will sponsoring the annual Conservation Public Speaking Contest at 6:30 p.m. April 3 in the Farm Bureau Office, 2008 N. Main St. The ontest is open to all high school students in grades 9 to 12 in Lake County. Students are asked to prepare a speech not less than five minutes and no longer than eight minutes in length on the topic "Water is Life." Speeches should emphasize the importance of water. Cash awards will be presented to the winning speeches $100 for first, $75 for second, $50 forthird and $25 for fourth. Participants each receive a conservation T-shirt. Contest information and resource materials can be obtained by contacting Phyllis Reeder at the LCSWCD office.
