DYER | Texas Roadhouse is thinking about riding in to town.

Plan Commissioners got their first look at the plans at a study session this week.

The chain, which operates almost 300 restaurants in 44 states, is looking at a site on Calumet Avenue, south of the bridge and north of U.S. 30, next to Chase Bank.

Although in its earliest stages, the site plan proposal appears to be "in good shape," Planning and Development Director Rick Eberly said.

"They have their landscape plan, their lighting plan," their parking plan in place, he said.

If approved, Texas Roadhouse will construct a 7,200-square-foot facility that will seat 240 patrons, and a parking lot with 169 spaces.

Company representatives are expected to return to the commission next month.

Town officials have been looking for a long time to jump-start development on the Calumet Avenue corridor. The southern end of the corridor, most of which runs between the bridge and 213th Street, was zoned with a special overlay zoning and development plan two years ago.

The Retail Coach, a consulting firm hired by the Redevelopment Commission earlier this year, said last month Dyer may have trouble attracting new business to that area north of the bridge, but that the corridor itself could do well if anchored by a developer-driven retail project.
