A NIPSCO lineman died Friday as a result of injuries he suffered Feb. 16 while repairing a damaged power pole in Tyner, Ind., about 3 miles northwest of Plymouth.
Jeffrey R. Cox, 48, of Plymouth, died at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Burn Center in Fort Wayne, according to David Chlebek, vice president of Local 12775 of the United Steelworkers union.
Cox is the second NIPSCO lineman to die from on-the-job injuries in the last year and a half. Michael Nesius, 43, of Rensselaer, was electrocuted Aug. 11, 2006, as he was installing a power pole near Medaryville, Ind.
Cox, a 30-year NIPSCO veteran, was assisting three other NIPSCO lineman in installing metering equipment, Chlebek said. Preliminary investigation shows Cox came in contact with a piece of equipment energized with 7,200 volts, Chlebek said.
