Woman arrested on child neglect charges

HEBRON | Hebron police said a woman left two young children unattended in her vehicle while she visited someone at Misty Glen Apartments. Police said that while she was in the apartment, she passed out because of intoxication.

Police said her children were found wandering at the apartments.

The woman, Amanda Kifer, 24, of 604 Jackson St., Hebron, was arrested about 8 p.m. Monday on two felony counts of child neglect.

Cops: Shoplifters fled in stolen vehicle

PORTAGE | Portage police said two people on Monday night stole $53 worth of steak from Kmart on U.S. 6, then fled in a stolen vehicle.

Police said they stopped the car near Kmart and arrested both people.

Edgar Murphy, 50, of 5538 Tulip Ave., Portage, was arrested on a warrant and on new charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, theft, drunken driving and driving with a suspended license. Carrie Lemmon, 42, of the same address, was arrested on charges of assisting a criminal and public intoxication.

Woman charged with defrauding bank

PORTAGE | A Portage woman was charged Tuesday with felony bank fraud after she was accused of writing more than $25,000 worth of checks she didn't have the funds to cover.

Julie Sullins, 36, of 5526 Lark Ave., is accused of writing the checks on her personal account and two business accounts -- Roofsmart and KMS Construction. All three accounts are at Main Source Bank in Portage. The checks were written in July and August.

Man charged with battery, intimidation

PORTAGE | A Portage man was charged Monday with intimidation and battery in connection with a confrontation Sunday at his apartment.

Ryan Mathis, 24, of 3290 Denise Drive, Apt. 204, is accused of battering a man and threatening the man and a woman with an 8-inch knife.

Suspicious circumstances. Bentley Street resident Brenda Bley reported someone disconnected her Verizon home phone service and secured her telephone utility box shut with a bolt.
