INDIANAPOLIS | The Hammond Sanitary District closed a $17.2 million loan Wednesday through the Wastewater State Revolving Fund Program, saving the district nearly $2.5 million in interest for upgrades to its sewer system and treatment facilities.
The loan will fund treatment plant upgrades and an interceptor project, which will relieve the system of combined sewer overflows.
"The district is pleased to use this money to continue its waste water treatment improvement program to improve water quality for Hammond's residents," District Manager Michael Unger said.
Gov. Mitch Daniels created the Indiana Finance Authority in 2005 to more effectively manage state-related financial programs.
