CROWN POINT | Mayoral candidate Dave Uran is making his pitch via video.

The Democrat preparing to face off with Republican candidate Gayle Van Sessen in November announced Tuesday he will be sending DVDs to all registered voters in Crown Point espousing his campaign platform.

"Signs don't vote," Uran said at the opening of his campaign headquarters at 1500 N. Main St. "Billboards don't tell you the message."

Candidates throughout the country are incorporating technology into their campaigns for office. Some are using traditional Web sites while others are tacking their names to social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.

Uran said his DVD will be released the week of Oct. 15. The video campaign message also will be available for viewing on Uran's Web site at www.uran4mayor.com.

In the DVD, the 39-year-old highlights his top issues in the campaign, including a call for the city to build a parking garage to ease parking problems around the square. It could be placed on an existing city lot and designed to blend with the architecture, he said.

He also urges the creation of a national marketing campaign to bring new jobs to the area, construction of a hotel and convention center, and property tax relief.

If elected, Uran said he would like to put out a DVD to residents at the end of every year to show what has been accomplished in the city.

His headquarters will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays leading up to the election.
