INDIANAPOLIS | Mid-sized businesses do more than their fare share to fuel the state economy, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce concludes in a study released Monday.
The mids have a major impact, generating 30 percent of the jobs and 40 percent of the sales logged by firms headquartered in Indiana.
"These companies and their thousands of workers are located in all areas of the state, representing a broad range of industries," Mark Lawrance, Indiana Chamber senior vice president said in a statement. "They are successful organizations, cornerstones in their communities. The goal of this project is to help them achieve at an even higher level."
The study defined mid-market companies as those with more than $5 million and less than $100 million in annual sales. There only are 3,789 such firms in Indiana, which, the chamber says, makes their robust contribution to the Indiana economy even more impressive.
"The impact of these mid-market firms is even more widespread than originally anticipated," Lawrence said. "All of the private and public sector partners that actively participated in this study are committed to helping these companies and their employees to continue to prosper."
