CROWN POINT | The severe beating of a 16-year-old Hobart girl may have been captured on a surveillance videotape, court officials said Tuesday.
The revelation came during a Lake Juvenile Court pre-trial hearing for Brittney McCammon.
So far, neither McCammon's attorney nor prosecutors have viewed the tape, the lawyers disclosed at the hearing.
Lake Juvenile Court Magistrate Glenn Commons told defense attorney Robert Schwerd that he should work with Deputy Prosecutor Georgia Zingo Enzer to view the security videotape that was taken outside Lake George Shrimp, 435 E. 3rd St., Hobart.
McCammon is accused of beating 16-year-old Jamie Rodriguez, of Hobart, outside the downtown restaurant on June 4.
Rodriguez's injuries were so severe she had to be airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill. She was released from the hospital a few days later but continues to face ongoing physical therapy and psychiatric sessions, her parents have said.
Enzer said she may or may not admit the videotape as evidence depending on what it shows.
"You have three weeks to resolve this," Commons told both sides.
The judge set an Aug. 19 waiver hearing for McCammon, who has been charged with attempted murder and felony battery.
The prosecutor's office is asking that the teen be waived to adult court to face the charges.
