Sign-up deadline for Do Not Call list nears

The next deadline to register for the Indiana Do Not Call list is Feb. 19, Attorney General Steve Carter said in a news release.

Phone numbers placed on the list to avoid unwanted telemarketing calls will begin receiving benefits of the law April 1.

More than 1.9 million phone numbers have been added to the list since its creation. Carter's office has entered agreements with more than 220 companies for alleged violations of the law.

Phone numbers can be placed on the list 24 hours a day by calling (888) 834-9969 or visiting http://www.attorneygeneral.in.gov.

District offers training for substitute teachers

Interested in becoming a Crown Point substitute teacher?

Crown Point Community School Corp. is holding free training during a half-day workshop Feb. 21. The workshop will include sessions on lesson plans, discipline and the role of substitute teachers.

The session will be from 8 a.m. to noon and include coffee and snacks.

Crown Point substitute teachers must be 21 years of age, have CPR certification and have a high school diploma. Some college is preferred, but not required.

Substitutes receive $60/day without a college degree, $65/day with a four-year degree and $70/day with a teacher's license.
