LAPORTE | Steve Arvin was called a "scum ball" by one his victims before handed a 20-year prison sentence Friday in LaPorte Circuit Court for child molesting.
Arvin, 38, of Rolling Prairie, will have to serve 10 years on probation after his release.
While reading from a prepared statement in court, "you really are a low scum ball to do what you did to me and my best friend," said the girl, who was 12 when Arvin had sex with her.
"I hate you. I hate you. I hate you," said the girl.
Arvin under a plea agreement was found guilty of Class A felony child molesting and Class B felony incest.
There were two victims of his sexual assaults, which occurred prior to his arrest in 2007.
According to court records, Arvin was initially arrested for having sex and fondling the then 12-year-old girl while he was living on LaPorte County Road 500 East in Rolling Prairie.
Authorities said Arvin had moved back in with his parents due to financial difficulties.
Suspecting things weren't right, the parents had spy cameras installed in their home and his activities were captured on videotape, authorities said.
