Members OK change order for exits at CPHs
CROWN POINT | The Crown Point School Board re-elected Scott Angel as its president and swore in new member Jerry Caravana on Wednesday morning.
Caravana, 63, a retired Crown Point High School teacher and athletic director, beat out businessman Mark Bates for the District 2 seat in May. Caravana replaces Dan Root, who chose not to run for a third term.
Most board members -- except Patti Wolter -- were present and sworn in by Crown Point City Court Judge Kent Jeffirs.
The School Board elected Karen Schrum as vice president and Tom Hoffman as secretary. During the meeting, the board also established its board stipend and pay based on state guidelines.
Each board member will receive a $2,000 stipend for the year and $112 for each meeting he or she attends. In addition, board members who are members of specific committees will get $62 for every committee meeting they attend.
In other action, the Crown Point School Board approved a change to the high school construction project. The change will allow Austgen Equipment Inc. to provide a fourth lane to the Main Street entrance.
Currently, there are two entrances into the high school from Main Street and one exit. The construction will allow for two entrances and two exits and is aimed at reducing the amount of congestion. The cost of the extra work is estimated to be $46,878.
